Artwork

Analemma is a light installation exploring how we perceive space, light, and our own presence within it. The artist investigates what constitutes a powerful human experience—as a possible path toward understanding the inherently unknowable meaning of existence.

The work creates a delicate network of thousands of white threads through which beams of light pass. At their intersections, moving “particles” emerge—points of light that shift in speed, direction, and intensity depending on the position and orientation of the threads. Visitors can move freely through the space and become immersed in it.

The title Analemma refers to the intersection of a line and a plane. Installed in the courtyard of Dvor Mikuš, the work also raises questions about cultural heritage—whether its loss, for example in architecture, disrupts the continuity of our shared legacy and what this reveals about the values we pass on to future generations.

Author

Yasuhiro Chida is an internationally recognized Japanese artist working with light and space. In his immersive installations, he explores the perception of space and embodied experience, guided by the belief that the ultimate purpose of human existence cannot be definitively known. He therefore focuses on the search for intense human experience as a possible guide to meaning. Even if this search does not lead to a definitive answer, he considers the joy of experience to be of fundamental value.

Since 2002, he has presented his work at more than 100 exhibitions and festivals worldwide, including Fête des Lumières, Amsterdam Light Festival, and Luminale. He has received ten awards, including the Audience Award at the International Light Art Award (2019).

His works are included in international collections and have been featured in retrospective exhibitions. Since 2016, he has been active primarily in Europe and is currently developing his own Museum of Spatial Art.
